Synopsis
My Ántonia, from the novel by Willa Cather, newly adapted for the stage by Jarrett Dapier.
The play is directed by Gary Ambler and Joi Hoffsommer.
My Ántonia is Willa Cather’s much-loved story about the early settlers and farmers, many of them immigrants, on the hardscrabble plains of Nebraska in the late 1800s. Through Jim Burden’s memories of his childhood friend Ántonia Shimerda, a moving story of hardship and inspiration is told. H.L. Mencken said, “No romantic novel ever written in America, by man or woman, is one half so beautiful as My Ántonia.” Jarrett Dapier, a longtime Celebration Company member, lives and works in Evanston, Illinois.
